Girl Crush: Rajni Jacques

You know there are those girls whose style you just identify with…well for me that is Rajni Jacques.  The Haitian beauty and Rack’s fashion editor-at-large is a fashion industry veteran.  Having worked at Vibe, Nylon and Glamour Magazines as well as Madewell and Yahoo Style.  Like me, she is a complete denim addict and refuses to be swayed by the industries trends and keeps true to her own laid-back, urban-inspired style.  Find out more about Rajni in these interviews here, here and here.  You can also keep up with her on Instagram here where you can see her easy-to-wear maternity style.  Scroll down to see some of my favorite looks from Rajni.

Quick City Guide: Bristol, UK

The last time H and I visited the UK we flew in and out of Bristol instead of London.  It’s been a while since I had visited the city which is a shame as I lived there for a while before I started my touring life again.  I really couldn’t believe how much the city had change in appearance, but it still had the same good old cool, urban vibes which I love it for.

We intended to spend the day before our flight back to France in Bristol and Bath to do a little sightseeing.  This however didn’t go as planned!  As you can imagine it’s really hard saying goodbye and having to leave family and friends no matter how many times you do it, so we didn’t arrive in Bristol (Bath was a no-goer) until 5.30 in the evening the night before our flight.

So, here is a very quick Insta rundown of the few hours we did spend in Bristol and don’t forget you can follow me on Instagram to keep up to date on my daily doings and lovings.

Roamers & Seekers is a relatively new brand who are started dressing Bristolian musician Roni Size.  At the moment they have a pop-up store in Corn st which is well worth a visit.

The beautiful entrance to St Nichols market; at the weekend there are vintage stores out front and when you walk through the market check out the exterior outdoor area for little eateries and snack bars.

Had my eye on that denim jacket but it was take.

If you’re a #sneakerhead check out this upcoming event by #sneakerbox (June 2016)

I was introduced to El Puerto by a Spanish friend when we attended an afterparty by a Spanish brand being held there, which was a brilliant night so I always have fond memories when I’m there.

During our time in Bristol we:

Walked around: Clifton, Clifton Suspension Bridge, Park Street

Shopped at: St Nichols Market, Roamers and Seekers, Urban Fox, 5Pointz, Fopp, Fifty FiftyCarhartt

Ate at: El Puerto

Drank at: The Louisiana – The Louie is actually a music venue and have some great bands playing there (check out their site for some of the artists that have graced their stage) a must for music lovers and it’s run by the lovely Mig and his brother and father.

Danced at: The Thekla

Slept at: Radisson but wouldn’t really recommend it, really wanted to stay here but unfortunately it was all booked out.

Saturday Shopping: How to wear Espadrilles

How to wear espadrilles

I just started wearing my espadrilles for the first time this year yesterday and was thinking about up-ing my espadrilles game…in other words giving myself an excuse to buy another pair.  I love espadrilles in the summer and funnily enough never wore them a lot before moving to France even though I had spent time in countries where the weather was more than adapted to them.  They go with almost everything,  and I end up wearing them so much during the summer here in France.

Espadrilles originated in Catalonia and although they are now mainly manufactured in Bangladesh there are still companies in Europe that specialise in the handmaking of the shoes.  If you follow Mandi Loves you know that I am a sucker for a ‘how it’s made’ video, so check out this talented man who has been making the trademark espadrilles soles for years, I love his technique for rolling the ends of the rope on his leg.

I also love how these stylish ladies wear their espadrilles.

How To Wear espadrilles off shoulder top shorts sincerely Jules

These tan strappy coloured versions are great for elongating the legs, something I personally always need a little bit of extra help with.

How To Wear espadrilles Ankle Strap

A wedged version with ankle ribbons gives a more feminine feel while not being overly dressy.

How To Wear espadrilles Zebra

These Zebra print ones are great for being the focal point of an outfit

How To Wear espadrilles Studies Valentino

My personal favourites, great for a bit of a rock and roll feel, love them with a flowy, feminine dress as well.

How To Wear espadrilles Chanel Sincerely Jules

This classic colour and style are perfect for everyday wear

How To Wear espadrilles Platform

Another fave this laced-up flatform pair has a bit of a tomboyish feel to them.

How To Wear espadrilles colour pop

Nothing like a bit of colour to brighten up and give character to an outfit and espadrilles are perfect for that.

Here are some of my picks:

Sunday Decor: Grow your own Pot Fruit, Veg and Herbs

Grow your own pot pineapple

Now, I will be the first one to admit that I’m not the green finger type at ALL!  It’s taken me years to find a houseplant that will put up with my lack of green fingered-ness.  However, I do like the idea of growing my own fruit and veg.  As a child of Jamaican descent I grew up with my grandfather and uncles growing our fruit and veg but somehow never picked up their gardening savvyness. It was while browsing Pinterest that I got interested and thinking that I might be able to handle growing these pot plants, that couple with the fact that I think that they’ll look totally cute on the balcony.  So here are four plants that I’ll be trying this summer; pineapple, avocado, garlic and mixed herbs.  If you have tried any of these and have any tips I’d love to hear them in the comments below.

How to grow an avocado tree

I love avocados so trying this with a few of the seeds will be super cool

Mason Jar Herb Garden

My mom had a herb garden and with a small kitchen, I think this will make a good alternative on the balcony

Grow Garlic in a pot

I’m hoping by having garlic growing on our balcony will help act as a natural mosquito deterrent
