You might remember this post where I was lusting after coffee table books. Well I got my wish, but not a book that I asked for, instead I got the fabulous work of art…MORE by Rankin. This Scottish born photographer is a man of many talents also being a film director and publisher. If you’re a fan of magazines Dazed and Confused, which he co-founded with Jefferson Hack and Hunger, a biannual publication launched in 2011, then it will give you an idea of what to expect in this quality book. `
Upon reflection of MORE, Rankin says, “I am aware that my work is often a little bit uncomfortable, a bit strange, a bit challenging. I consider many of my pictures of the more famous people almost as ‘anti-celebrity’—get them off the pedestal, get them face-to-face, see the real person inside.…If you look at that part of my work, it’s levelling.”
MORE is a collection of Rankin’s best photography work, which is clearly marked out by themes including portraits, beauty, fashion, nudes and myths. With a career spanning over 20 years, photographing some of the worlds most renowned celebrities and defining a generation of pop culture, how can this book not be anything less than amazing. Take a look at just a few pieces of his work from the book.
